Cady McClain was only 18 years old when she landed the iconic role of Dixie Cooney on All My Children. Just two years later in 1990, McClain won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Juvenile Female in a Drama Series for the ABC soap.
Fourteen years later, McClain won the Daytime Emmy for her role as Rosanna Cabot on CBS' As the World Turns in 2004, this time in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category. In 2021, McClain brought home the gold once again in the Outstanding Guest Performer category as Jennifer Horton Deveraux on NBC's Days of our Lives.
That third win turned McClain into a Daytime Emmy history maker -- as the first woman to win for three different characters on three different soaps in three different categories, something McClain will never forget.
"For the record.... I've won three," McClain wrote on Instagram next to a photo of her three golden statuettes. "I am the first woman to win for three different characters on three different daytime series. I made history.
"My goal was not to make history, but to never give up on my craft as an actor. This is harder than it sounds. I did something remarkable. And I'm proud of it. And now I teach other people how to do remarkable things. And I love doing that.
"These three Emmys mean something to more people than just me. They mean something to everyone who watched the shows or worked on them, too. They are a marker of effort and achievement, and a recognition by one's peers that one's effort stands out."
McClain also offered an update on what she is doing today. The accomplished director who helmed Seeing is Believing: Women Direct still performs but is taking time away from the screen to work in theater.
"I still act," she continued. " I also run a theater company called Axial Theatre and work to develop the work of both playwrights and actors. And I teach at Michael Howard Studios, where I learned my craft."
After several years in Los Angeles, McClain is now back in New York, sharing snaps of her city life. She recently announced that she and her husband of ten years, General Hospital star Jon Lindstrom (Kevin Collins), have decided to end their marriage, but they remain friends.
