Part two of a two-part look back at the events of the past year in Los Angeles. This week, our columnist Mike discusses the best and the worst that The Bold and the Beautiful had to offer in 2010.
January 10, 2011
It seems that Taylor's fears about Thomas and Brooke having an affair aren't based on blind suspicion and mistrust. Hell no, it's all about Sigmund Freud and the Oedipal complex.
January 17, 2011
Jackie and Owen have been missing in action for three months, so wasn't last week kind of a strange time for them to renew their wedding vows?
January 24, 2011
Nick should know something about the whole cougar fashion angle, because Taboo is just a younger version of Jackie and Owen's cabana boy routine. Younger man who's infatuated with sexy, older woman. Sound familiar?
January 31, 2011
It's about time that Brooke took a hard line with Thomas. He keeps spinning excuses, but she's not buying them. How interesting that she's coming to think that Taylor may be on to something with the whole Oedipus thing.
February 7, 2011
Eric's romance with Donna was his second midlife crisis. Number one was his marriage to Brooke. Hopefully, Eric will refrain from having a third midlife crisis and stick with Stephanie for the duration.
February 14, 2011
Nick's cigar saga would have been a lot more effective if it had been designed as a long-term story arc that focused on the human angle of the whole thing; that's why Stephanie's story worked.
February 21, 2011
Amber's being accused of trying to kill Liam, and Bill is turning psycho to get back at her. None of this makes any sense, if you stop to think about it. If Amber's using Liam as a meal ticket, what will she gain by killing him?
February 28, 2011
Pairing the pampered rich boy and the wily street girl isn't new, but it might have a chance of working here if it wasn't being rushed. Thomas is just too creepy and smarmy to be even close to endearing.
March 7, 2011
Bill and Steffy are cold, nasty, and evil. It might be possible to forgive Bill for his nefarious deeds, given the situation with Liam, but Steffy showed her true colors last week, and they aren't very attractive.
March 14, 2011
Despite being a mother who would naturally be prejudiced toward her son, Taylor is still a psychiatrist...but apparently not a very good one, because she only hears what she wants to hear.
March 21, 2011
What has happened to Ridge? Normally, he's a go-with-the-flow type of guy. He's at least more amenable than Stephanie, who is as tough as nails when she thinks her way is the only way.
March 28, 2011
Taylor couldn't even say that she loved her husband last week. Not only does this assassinate her character more, but it takes the brilliant Taylor/Whip pairing and smashes it against the wall for all time.
April 4, 2011
Where the hell is Whip? Has he noticed that his wife of less than a year has flown to Paris with her ex-husband, the man whose name she murmured in bed during sex?
April 11, 2011
Continuing to have Bill base his behavior on the mistaken belief that Amber tried to kill Liam is just sloppy storytelling. Why haven't Liam and Katie called him on this?
April 18, 2011
Whatever happened to the notion of earning your place in the world? What have Steffy and Thomas done to earn everything that they've been given at Forrester?
April 25, 2011
How many times, in how many ways, does Bill have to demonstrate that he is devoted to Katie before Steffy finally clues in that he's not interested?
May 2, 2011
Wouldn't it have been more interesting to see Brooke and Thomas spending more time finding food, getting water, and trying to deal with the elements, instead of the story of the magical berries?
May 9, 2011
It was good to see the Forresters and the Logans band together in a time of crisis. Stephanie was right to note that it often takes tragedy for people to put aside their differences.
May 16, 2011
Once again, Brooke is in an impossible position; she can choose to tell the hurtful truth, or keep another secret from Ridge. The character is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't.
May 23, 2011
Hope has been all but ruined, going back and forth from Oliver to Liam so often that it makes Ridge's infamous waffling look amateur. Oliver has started to get pissed, and who could blame him? Hope is jerking him around.
May 30, 2011
For Thomas, apparently, money and power are more important than love and respect. He loves and respects his father, but he wants the power and money that Stephanie dangled in front of his face in exchange for telling a lie.
June 6, 2011
Why can't Ridge forgive Brooke for supposedly sleeping with Thomas while she was under the influence of hallucinogenic berries? He had no problem forgiving her for accidentally sleeping with Oliver while fully conscious.
June 13, 2011
After years of Stephanie and Taylor telling her that she's the slut of the Valley, a woman without any moral compass, Brooke is now convinced that she is what they've said she is.
June 20, 2011
Hope has every reason to rally against Brooke in the aftermath of the berry boink, considering that Brooke and Oliver did the mask boink a year ago, yet she continues to defend Brooke.
June 27, 2011
Last week, Amber finally got the baby that she has always wanted, and Marcus, who just moments before had been doing his best imitation of Isaac Hayes, readily accepted his newfound daughter.
July 4, 2011
Hooray for Dayzee! When she got the truth out of Thomas about what really happened on the island, she did something about it. At last, a character who's not intimidated by Stephanie's bullying ways.
July 11, 2011
Last week, Jiminy Cricket made an appearance, and Stephanie realized that she couldn't let Ridge marry Taylor under false pretenses. Her conscience got the better of her, and she stopped the wedding.
July 18, 2011
In the aftermath of Stephanie's deception, everyone seems to be letting her (and Thomas) off the hook too easily. Brooke and Taylor should team up against Stephanie!
July 25, 2011
Taylor thinks that the Forresters have taken too much from her? Really? The same woman who's been part of every Forrester family function for over a decade? Where would she be without the Forresters in her life?
August 1, 2011
Katie must sense on some level that Steffy is a threat to her marriage. The vow renewal ceremony was sweet, but if you know that your spouse doesn't like surprises, why would you engineer such a big one?
August 8, 2011
Not only was Bill ready, willing, and able to cheat on Katie; he actually feels justified in doing it! In his screwy thinking, Katie betrayed him because she didn't agree that his homicidal rage against Amber was acceptable behavior.
August 15, 2011
Alert the media! Were Brooke and Taylor actually being civil to each other last week? Well, for five seconds, at least, given that they each are family to someone who stood to get hurt by Bill's philandering.
August 22, 2011
Hope has become unraveled by the idea of having to lose her virginity to Liam, or risk losing him to Steffy. Meanwhile, Steffy has flipped a switch and is no longer in love with Bill, because Liam saved her life.
August 29, 2011
Hope and Liam really seem to love each other, and they've been together for almost a year, which is like seven soap years. Last week, they decided to get married, and everyone in L.A. seems to have an opinion about the idea.
September 5, 2011
Steffy seems to think that all men are entitled to be boffing their way through girlfriends as some kind of biological imperative. In her demented dome, Liam's needs are more important than Hope's ethics.
September 12, 2011
Do you realize how many wedding dresses Eric has designed for his family over the years? He could open a whole new branch of Forrester on those alone.
September 19, 2011
Didn't Taylor already use, abuse, and discard Thorne after accidentally killing his wife? Are we really supposed to believe that she would tumble for Thorne again after all this time?
September 26, 2011
Will Liam wimp out and indulge his hormones with Steffy, or stay true to Hope? The bigger question is: does anyone care anymore? This tale is getting messier every day, due to mixed messages and spotty continuity.
October 3, 2011
Couldn't Liam have figured out that maybe, just maybe, somebody might have seen him with Steffy's tongue down his throat? They were in the driveway. It's a public place. Apparently, Hope needed to spell it out for him.
October 10, 2011
Bill's like a snarky, gee-I'm-glad-my-son-got-laid version of James Bond. Two months ago, he had his tongue down Steffy's throat. Now he's patting his son on the back for going further than he got to? Weird.
October 17, 2011
Hooray for Stephanie and Eric, two mature, interesting, complicated characters who are at loggerheads over the most delicate of dilemmas, intimacy. Eric wants to make love with his wife, but Stephanie has lost the desire to be with him.
October 24, 2011
The idea of Jackie coming around and deciding to set Owen free so that he can be a father to Logan is actually a nice one, but wouldn't it have felt more organic if the show's pacing was more realistic?
October 31, 2011
Has Ridge become a strong, rigid, self-righteous guy, or is he just a weak weenie? After last week, it's hard to tell if Ridge is still the same person, considering his random fluctuations in attitude.
November 7, 2011
Obviously, there's a strong attraction between Eric and Jackie, but neither of them is planning an affair, and neither of them wants to hurt Stephanie. That's much more fascinating than the standard soap triangle.
November 14, 2011
Brooke doesn't know what's important anymore. She should be grateful for all of her good fortune; she's got Ridge back, she's in good health, and she survived a plane crash and the psychedelic berries. She needs to butt out of Hope's love life.
November 21, 2011
Last week, Steffy told Liam about her deception. Did Liam kick her to the curb? Nope. He's so blinded by getting sexed that he's willingly allowing himself to be duped! Never mind that he still obviously loves Hope.
November 28, 2011
Ridge keeps telling Hope to respect Liam and Steffy's marriage, but did he respect Brooke's marriage to Eric when he broke up that family? Sounds like a double standard.
December 5, 2011
A few weeks ago, Eric and Stephanie were facing a legitimate, unique conflict, but now, that storyline seems to have been swept under the rug. Why are all of the good storylines quickly dropped or resolved?
December 12, 2011
Not every character will have street smarts of business savvy, but that doesn't mean that every character has to be dumb as a box of rocks. Only time will tell if Beverly find her way to the top -- or gets sent to the hills.
December 19, 2011
Ridge has stolen designs to contend with, yet he made time to call Liam into his office to tell him to honor his commitment to Steffy? Even usually clueless Liam couldn't understand why Ridge was covering that ground again!

Part one of a two-part look back at the events of the past year in Los Angeles. This week, our columnist Allison discusses the best and the worst that The Bold and the Beautiful had to offer in 2011.
