Though unconfirmed by the show, Soap Opera Digest has reported that Days of our Lives will trim four contract players from its cast.
Matthew Ashford (Jack Deveraux), Sarah Brown (Madison James), Christie Clark (Carrie Brady), and Patrick Muldoon (Austin Reed) will exit the show later this year.
"As you've probably heard, the news came out today that my character (and I) will be leaving the show," Ashford wrote on Facebook. "That's the way it goes in this business... as always-thank you to everyone for your support."
Brown, meanwhile, took the person responsible for leaking the news to task on Twitter.
"Don't know if it's true, but, who ever leaked that story should consider that no one wants to find out they have lost their job via Twitter," Brown wrote, later indicating that she knew of her fate before the news appeared on Twitter. "Ken Corday & Greg Meng are class, they would not do that to us. Wasn't them who leaked it, & I didn't hear it first on Twitter. Who leaked?
Ashford, Clark, and Muldoon returned to Days of our Lives as part of the show's much-hyped reboot in 2011. Brown first appeared on the show in October.
There has been no official comment from the show, but in a recent interview, a Days of our Lives exec hinted that some cast cuts were imminent.
"We're looking at weaving people in and out, and bringing them back later if we can," DAYS' co-executive producer Greg Meng said in a recent interview with TVGuide.
Show sources hint that there will be more high-profile firings in the weeks ahead.
The casting changes come a week after DAYS announced that it would be replacing Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas, Jr., as its head writers. For more information on the changes to the writing team, click here.
Clark and Muldoon will last appear on July 25. Ashford and Brown will exit DAYS on August 15.
