Peacock's Days of our Lives spinoff Beyond Salem is pulling out all the stops to be one heck of an experience for fans, including a guest-starring appearance by Canadian drag queen and RuPaul's Drag Race star Jackie Cox, who's famous for her impersonations of DAYS star Lisa Rinna (Billie Reed).
Cox has been stepping into Rinna's shoes in a variety of spaces, including on season 12 of Snatch Game, on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live!, and on the network's float at a Pride parade. But now, she's taking her iconic drag persona of Rinna to the DAYS world itself!
Though she's unable to reveal her character's name (or purpose) at this point, she tells EW that her appearance on Beyond Salem will be a wild ride that will certainly please fans of drag, drama, and Rinna.
"When my character finally meets Lisa's iconic Billie Reed, it's quite the encounter, complete with lots of soap opera stares, which Lisa and I had too much fun doing," Cox shares. "It was my first time on a soap opera set, and Lisa was so welcoming and definitely helped me find my light. She kept saying 'the good light is over here, honey,' and amen for that!"
Cox's experience at the DAYS spinoff has inspired her to take her Lisa Rinna impersonations even further. The drag queen will soon be hitting the road with her JackieVision tour later this year, and she shares that she's likely to use the tour to test out some new material.
"I've had in the back of my head, the idea of doing a long form cabaret as Lisa called The Rinna Takes it All, but until that pipe dream comes true, I'll be incorporating some of those ideas in this number," Cox reveals of the JackieVision shows, which draw inspiration from TV projects she became obsessed with during quarantine amid the COVID-19 pandemic. "And, yes, there will be video elements, though no new footage from Rinna... yet! A year ago I was just a fangirl, but now I'm lucky enough to call her a colleague, so, yes, stranger things have happened!"
Until then, fans can see some of the Lisa Rinna impersonation magic in Beyond Salem, which is set to premiere on Peacock on Monday, September 6.
