As reported earlier this week, Port Charles will soon welcome home Kristina Davis, but Emmy-nominated actress Lexi Ainsworth will not be playing the part. The show has recast the role with newcomer Lindsey Morgan.
Since news of the recast was first announced, speculation has run rampant about why exactly the show had made the change. Ainsworth, who had been let go from the show in October 2011 over concerns that she was too young to play the type of stories that the show's then-head writer wanted to craft, took to Twitter to dispel rumors that she was again the victim of any sort of age-related decision.
"Thank you guys for all your support but I won't be reprising the role of Kristina. I loved her but I've also loved being free to do film," Ainsworth wrote on Twitter. "I enjoyed meeting Frank [Valentini, GH's executive producer] and I know you will love the new Kristina that he has found. I learned so much from my GH home and want to grow further."
Ainsworth's on-screen mom, Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) pledged to withhold comment until Ainsworth spoke out about the recast. Once that happened, Grahn offered her support for the young actress.
"Lexi's already got offers [for] many primetime projects," Grahn wrote, adding that Ainsworth didn't want to sign a long-term contract with General Hospital, and the role of Kristina was slated to be a contract role. "[In my opinion] she made right decision."
The new Kristina, meanwhile, debuts in May.
