Soap opera fans have been thoroughly en-JOY-ing the mainstream media attention soap stars Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos, General Hospital), Susan Lucci (ex-Erica Kane, All My Children), Laura Wright (Cary Jacks, GH), and Donna Mills (ex-Madeline Reeves, GH) have been getting as part of the publicity for David O'Russell's film Joy, which features the actors in a fictional soap opera. Much fanfare has been made over their special appearances, and both Benard and Lucci have taken to social media to express their gratitude over having been asked to take part in the movie.
Lucci attended the world premiere of Joy in New York City, where she walked the red carpet with O'Russell. "I am so happy to have worked with him and have a part in this fabulous movie," she posted on Instagram along with a photo of the pair speaking with reporters. Meanwhile, Benard took to Facebook to share his experience working with the celebrated film director. "It was such a [privilege] to be in a David O. Russell movie," he shares. "Working with David is like working with an incredibly talented mad scientist. The energy was out of this world and it made me want to be great. I suffer from major anxiety when it comes to flying, so it had been 10 years since I'd been on a plane. Through this experience, one of my biggest fears turned into 'Joy.' The people on the set could not have been nicer and more respectful and what made it even more of a blast is that I got to work with my friends Laura Wright, Susan Lucci, Donna Mills and John Enos [ex-Bobby Marsino, The Young and the Restless]."
O'Russell's Joy -- which also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, and Virginia Madsen -- opens nationwide on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25.
