Big news that will be music to Nashville fans' ears: the popular drama series is set to have its two-hour season five premiere on January 5, 2017, on its new network, CMT.
The series that stars Guiding Light alum Hayden Panettiere (ex-Lizzie Spaulding) and General Hospital alum Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky Spencer) was canceled by ABC four years into its run. Fans were outraged and started a social media campaign to find a new home for the show. Their efforts were successful, and CMT announced its plans to be the series' new home. New episodes of the show will be available on Hulu the day after they air on CMT.
"After a promising start with [Billy Ray Cyrus'] Still The King, we now have a clear path in attracting new audiences with our scripted programming," said Jayson Dinsmore, CMT's head of development. "Beginning with Nashville in January, each series will help launch the next; creating an overlay to cycle viewers through our originals year round."
The exec has also teased that the network may be considering a Nashville after show similar to Talking Dead, which goes along with The Walking Dead.
There is just one minor glitch in the Nashville matrix. Series star Connie Britton, who plays Rayna Jaymes, is set to exit the show after just ten episodes of the 22-episode season, TVLine confirmed. Meanwhile, EW.com quotes sources as saying that show execs "remain hopeful" that they can get Britton to appear in additional episodes.
