When his photo popped up this week on General Hospital, fans of both GH and The Young and the Restless wondered what that meant for Steve Burton (Dylan McAvoy, Y&R; ex-Jason Morgan, GH).
In an exchange with a fan on Twitter, Burton revealed that he'd just signed a new contract with Y&R.
"Yes, just re signed," Burton stated without offering any additional detail.
In August 2012, Burton stunned General Hospital fans by announcing that he'd be leaving the soap he'd called home since 1990. Shortly there after, fans were taken aback yet again when Burton announced that he'd be reuniting with former GH executive producer Jill Farren Phelps, who had been recently hired as the executive producer for The Young and the Restless.
"I left [General Hospital] originally for a few reasons, but the main reason was to get to Nashville, to get my family there and raise my kids there, and kind of just get out of L.A.," Burton explained. "I told my manager [that] if can keep my family there and I can spend time with them and come back and forth [to Los Angeles for work], I would do that in a second. And without hesitation, CBS Daytime made that deal really quickly. This is crazy, but I am just so grateful to have the best of both worlds."
As for what Burton's photo appearing on General Hospital means, well, no one is saying. There is speculation that GH could recast Burton's former role sometime in the future -- and there has been fan speculation on Twitter that ABC might be interested in at least one star who recently exited Y&R. It is important to note that ABC has given no indication that they will be recasting the role of Jason Morgan.
As for his picture popping up, Burton will reportedly be paid for General Hospital's use of his photo.
In 1998, Burton was named Outstanding Supporting Actor at the Daytime Emmys. He received additional nods in 2000 and 2005, as well as a Younger Actor nomination in 1997.
Burton made his first on-screen appearance in Y&R on January 29, 2013.
