‘Tis the season to be jolly, and soap opera fans can certainly be happy that their cries for The Young and the Restless to bring Michael Muhney back in the role of Adam Newman have been heard -- by the actor, at least.
With the role of Victor's son now vacant, an online petition is making the rounds to bring Muhney back to the role most recently played by Justin Hartley. Much to the delight of fans, the actor re-tweeted the petition and shared his thoughts.
"I just read through all the comments in this petition. Brought tears to my eyes," he wrote, adding, "So blown away by people's passion for my work. #Humbling"
He followed up that tweet with several more messages of appreciation, writing, "Just feel like all I ever want to say is ‘thank you.' For being positive, for encouragement, for your passion & enthusiasm for my craft... It's a rare thing to capture this much passion & support and encouragement from fans. I feel honored to have found a place in your hearts."
As fans may recall, Muhney stepped into Adam's shoes in 2009 and quickly became a fan favorite. He unexpectedly departed the role in 2014 amidst a slew of unproven, unflattering rumors. He got fans buzzing earlier this fall when he sent out a mysterious tweet about dreams coming true if you wait long enough. The message convinced Y&R fans he is returning to Genoa City, despite the show's new writer, Sally Sussman, declaring in a recent interview that she has no plans to bring the character back to the canvas anytime soon.
Muhney hasn't gone into much detail about the rumors that started circulating when he left Y&R almost three years ago or the rumor that he can be difficult to work with. However, he shared two additional tweets that may shed light on how he views his rollercoaster Y&R experience.
"I've been on a journey for several years. Moved away from the me that fought too many battles and covered up insecurities with ego," he wrote, followed by, "I just know that I like myself a lot more now than I did years ago. Had to let go of the hard-headedness. It's a good feeling to let it go."
