Not long after announcing that the powers that be at The Young and the Restless have decided to let him go, Daniel Goddard (Cane Ashby) took to social media to share that the Friday, October 25 episode of the CBS soap opera will be the final time that fans see Lane -- Cane and Lily (Christel Khalil) -- on screen.
"My dearest, beloved friends," he wrote on Thursday. "Tomorrow is the end of an era, and so we humbly invite you to join us to watch @YRInsider & @cbsdaytime for Cane & Lily's final episode together."

Goddard announced the shocking news that he'd been fired after a thirteen-year run as Cane this Tuesday, explaining that last year's death of Kristoff St. John (ex-Neil Winters) and Khalil's choice to drop to recurring status influenced the show's decision to cut ties with Cane.
"Sadly it seems that without Neil & Lily... there just is no Cane," Goddard wrote.
As Y&R fans have seen over the years, Lane was consistently one of Genoa City's strongest couples. However, recent writing regimes put the couple through the wringer. That, in combination with Khalil's decision to focus on projects outside of soap operas, spelled doom for the longtime pair, and the fictional couple divorced not long after Lily was sent to prison to allow for Khalil's exit from the series.
According to official show teasers, today's episode will see Lily coming home to settle unfinished business and Jill (Jess Walton) choosing sides.
In addition to his long-running gig at Y&R, Goddard's credits include BeastMaster, Monk, Wild Card, and the Australian soap opera Home and Away.
