Disney+ is working on a new coming-of-age film that will star The Young and the Restless' Mckenna Grace (ex-Faith Newman).
Titled Crater, the movie is described as being similar to 1986's Stand by Me and tells the story a boy growing up on a lunar mining colony who invites his four best friends to help him explore a mysterious crater before he must permanently relocate to another planet due to the death of his father.
Grace, who plays one of the best friends, took to Instagram with news of her casting and a preview of the project, which she says is a tear-jerker. "The first time I read this script I cried my eyes out, same with the second time... and the third," she wrote. "I can't wait to work on this film and I'm so excited to work with Disney Plus for the 1st time!"
The sci-fi film, which hails from Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy, was originally set into motion at 20th Century Fox back in 2017 but is now being overseen by the live-action team at Disney+ due to Disney's acquisition of Fox. Production is expected to begin this spring, with Kyle Patrick Alvarez set to direct from a script written by John Griffin.
Grace starred as Y&R's Faith from 2013 to 2015 but has an extensive list of other credits like the horror projects The Haunting of Hill House, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Amityville: The Awakening, Annabelle Comes Home, and James Wan's upcoming Malignant; dramas such as Gifted and I, Tonya; comedies like Fuller House and Young Sheldon; and animated projects such as The Angry Birds Movie, Scoob!, and the upcoming Spirit Untamed.
As Soap Central previously reported, Grace will also be starring in the upcoming film Ghostbusters: Afterlife, to be released this November.
