Beloved daytime star Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea Lawson, The Young and the Restless; ex-Annie Novak, All My Children) is thrilled to share that after a very long journey of trying to become a mother, she is expecting a baby this summer with her husband, Matt Katrosar.
The actress took to Instagram with the heartwarming news, writing, "Very excited to share, Baby Boy Katrosar is set to arrive at the end of August. As happy as we are, the journey to get here has been filled with lots of tears, stress, sadness, helplessness, hopelessness, and 2 miscarriages."
The actress continues, "To anyone going through this process or any kind of fertility issues, I feel you, I see you, you're not alone. I wish I could jump through this phone and give you a big hug. Please do not give up hope. Keep trusting and have faith. You got this!!!"
Egan previously opened up about her difficult pregnancy journey in 2018, after she miscarried at eight weeks and had to have a D&C surgery just as she was wrapping up a stint as Y&R's Chelsea. She expressed how devastating the experience had been and how it had a huge toll "emotionally and physically, hormonally, all of it."
The actress hadn't opened up about it publicly but changed her mind when a friend of hers revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage as well. When that happened, Egan decided to share her story with the hope that doing so would prevent other women from feeling alone after suffering such a tragic loss.
"[My friend] seemed almost relieved when I told her I had the same experience. She told me she had felt alone and like a failure, and less-than, because she hadn't heard other people speak about it," the actress shared. "This made me SO SAD, and made me want to share my story. With anyone and everyone. Just so no one feels alone. I promise you you're not alone."
Egan made her daytime debut as All My Children's Annie McDermott Lavery Chandler, a role which she originated in July 2006. She was an immediate hit with fans and was quick to earn critical acclaim, snagging Daytime Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category in 2009, 2011, and 2012.
After AMC ended in 2011, Egan joined the cast of Y&R, where she originated another role, that of Chelsea Lawson. She picked up two more Emmy nominations in the Supporting Actress category in 2013 and 2014.
The actress has been married to Matt Katrosar since 2014.
