Everyone in the entertainment industry will tell you that when it comes to good television, it all starts on the page. If the writing is good, the show will be good. If the writing is bad, well... let's not even go there, because bad writing isn't even worth discussing, especially during the Emmy Awards! Now is the time to celebrate good writing, which is exactly what this year's judges did when they chose to give the award for Outstanding Writing to the writing team at The Bold and the Beautiful.
As was shown in the submission reel shared by NATAS, B&B focused on its intense love triangle between Liam (Scott Clifton), Hope (Annika Noelle), and Thomas (Matthew Atkinson).

The show’s executive producer and head writer, Brad Bell, accepted the award on behalf of the writing team and gave thanks to a slew of B&B crew members, including his co-head writer, Michael Minnis, for “giving it their all” every day.
This is the fifth win for B&B’s writing team. The show previously won this category in 2010, 2013, 2015, and 2016.

It takes a lot of talent to direct, and it takes even more talent to direct a daytime drama. The speed at which they have to bring magic to the screen is mind-boggling, and yet they manage to do it day in and day out -- which millions of fans around the world are thankful for. We wouldn't dare think that we could compete in the extremely tough field of directing, other than to say that if we were directing this year's Emmy Awards, we'd give all four of the daytime dramas an Emmy in this category. Alas, there can only be one winner, and the judges have decided that the top directing team for 2019 is none other than the directors at General Hospital.
The ABC drama submitted the special holiday episodes in which the cast presented their version of Charles Dickens' classic tale A Christmas Carol.
