It seems that Springfield is being hit with the same economic woes that other towns are facing - but who knew that a Ponzi scheme would be at the center of much of the trouble?
For a town that has sporadic bouts of employment for many of its citizens, now Remy and Christina are facing more economic woes. Which of course can lead Remy back into the high stakes gambling - and disaster for his relationship with Christina. But while Remy, the younger, albeit less successful Boudreau, has given his parent's pause - now he is there for his dad when he needs him most. But what will happen when he learns that James Spaulding is behind the troubles?
I have to admit that James is a character that continues to intrigue me. He can be such a pain - a spoiled rich kid who can annoy you at a moment's notice. But there is that vulnerable side which reminds me of Dinah - the forgotten troubled teen. He is trying so hard to get attention - and like Dinah not always the best laid plans to get noticed. Now Bill Lewis, Clayton Boudreau (and who knows who else?) will be affected by his latest scheme. Will James be the latest Spaulding who gets away with a serious crime?
And another troubled teen all grown up, Edmund is still causing trouble in Springfield. Josh and Shayne thought they knew how dastardly Edmund could be, but Roc Hoover's injuries bring it to a whole new level. This week, Edmund's life takes a dramatic turn that will lead GL into a summer of more twists and turns than a carnival ride. And I can't wait for the ride to start!
It is so difficult to realize that, unless something dramatic happens, this summer of wild twists and turns will be our last. For all of the crazy changes the show has gone through of late, I see so much promise in the stories we see now - and we've gained more viewers as well. Surely all of this work won't go unrewarded...
Speaking of rewards, congrats to GL's Emmy nominees Jeff Branson (Shayne), Daniel Cosgrove (Bill) and E.J. Bonilla (Rafe). I am surprised that the ladies of Springfield, especially Crystal Chapell (Olivia) and Marcy Rylan (Lizzie) didn't get an Emmy nod themselves. Hopefully we can get some recognition this year - on top of whatever send off they have planned for the show in case we don't get picked up elsewhere. But I still hold out hope that the Light will continue...
GL fans who are craving news on how they can help Keep the Light Shining, here is a way we can all band together to show that GL fans are serious about saving the show! GL fans have organized a Save The Light Rally on Friday, May 22nd in New York City. The group is scheduled to meet at 7:30 a.m. outside of the CBS Early Show at 5th Avenue and 59th Street in Manhattan. The latest news I've heard is that P&G and Televest are still in talks with Lifetime and the Oxygen networks. There have been some promising news leaks - but I'll wait to see what happens before I breathe a sigh of relief that GL will have a new home. There have been "reports" that the whole Lifetime discussion isn't happening - but I don't believe it until P&G makes a definitive statement on the subject.
So while I will try to focus here on the show, I want to remind fans to keep the letters, calls and posts coming!! We have to work fast to save the show. CBS is a dead issue, but Lifetime, Oxygen and even SoapNet are certainly places where we can Keep the Light Shining! And don't forget if you aren't a Nielsen family (I'm not, either) to watch the show online, too.
Whether or not we know how this story - and this show ends, it is important for all of us to stay focused on working to promote the show in a positive light for as long as we can...
